Rev. Dr. David B. Schreiner
Associate Professor of Old Testament and Inductive Biblical Studies
Rev. Dr. David B. Schreiner is Associate Professor of Old Testament and Inductive Biblical Studies. He is also the coordinator of the MDiv program at 国产视频 Theological Seminary. Previously, he was an Associate Professor of Old Testament and Associate Dean at Wesley Biblical Seminary (Jackson, MS).
Dr. Schreiner has published widely in the field of biblical studies. Topics include biblical archaeology, history of interpretation, and the exegesis of biblical passages. He co-wrote 鈥淕raf and Wellhausen and Their Legacy鈥� with Bill T. Arnold (A History of Biblical Interpretation, Volume 3, eds. Aland J. Hauser and Duane F. Watson [Eerdmans, 2017]), and in 2019, he published Pondering the Spade (Wipf and Stock), which provided a critical assessment of the most important finds in the history of biblical archaeology. In 2022, Schreiner contributed to the Kerux Commentary series (Kregel Academic) by writing its volume on 1 & 2 Kings (with Lee Compson). He co-wrote Ahab鈥檚 House of Horrors (Lexham Press) and Silhouettes of Scripture (Lexington Books) with fellow 国产视频 alumni, Dr. Kyle R. Greenwood and Dr. Drew S. Holland in 2023. Most recently, he published Frigatebirds, Sea Lions, and Darwin: Musings on Evolution, Creation, and Ecology (Wipf and Stock), which fused stories, history, biblical interpretation, and ecological reflections inspired by his family鈥檚 travel to the Gal谩pagos Islands.
Along with fellow alumni Mark Awabdy and Drew Holland, Schreiner co-edited a Festschrift in honor of Bill T. Arnold, Conceptualizations of the Divine (BZAR 32). Another co-edited volume, Preparation, Enactment, and Remembrance of Warfare in the Ancient Near East and North Africa (with Shane Thompson [Archaeopress]) is currently being finalized for publication.
Schreiner鈥檚 journal publications are ongoing and include contributions to many top-rated, international journals, including the Bulletin of Biblical Research, Journal for the Study of the Old Testament, Tyndale Bulletin,听 Scandinavian Journal of the Old Testament, Zeitschrift f眉r die alttestamentliche Wissenschaft, and Vetus Testamentum. Many of those publications deal with interpretive issues relevant to understanding 1 and 2 Kings.
In addition to contributing articles, chapters, and monographs, he also contributes to biblical scholarship through critical books reviews, academic presentations, and as the co-director of the Chronicler鈥檚 History study group within the Institute of Biblical Research. He is also an active member in the Society of Biblical Literature, and the American Schools of Overseas Research.
He is currently writing 1 & 2 Kings for The Bible in God鈥檚 World series (Cascade Books) as well as beginning a project that compares the reforms of Hezekiah and Josiah with those of Ezra and Nehemiah (Agents of Reform; Baker Academic).
Schreiner and his wife, Ginny, have three daughters, Maddie, Bailey, and Lily, and he is an ordained elder in the Free Methodist Church.
